Jakarta, CNN Indonesia - Twitter claims that labeling misinformation and hoaxes on a number of US President Donald Trump's tweets has an impact on reducing the spread of fake news on its platform.
The social media network said Trump's official account experienced a 29 percent drop in 'quote tweets' in tweets labeled as misinformation and hoax, "Official sources stated that is false and misleading."
In the 24 days since the US election, Twitter has labeled 200 of President Donald Trump's tweets and posts with false information, including those that were retweeted. This figure is expected to continue to grow.
As reported by Variety, about 30 percent of Trump's Twitter posts have been tagged as false information on Twitter since the entire vote and count closed on November 3.
Some of the warnings Twitter gave to Trump's tweet read, "Sources are calling this election different, Claims about election fraud are being debated, or Learn how to vote in safe and secure mail."
In order to prevent the spread of false information, Twitter has also added a question when users want to like a tweet that is labeled a warning.
Users will be asked if they would really like the tweet, which is potentially fake.
Trump's status as a disseminator of false information when elections will change in 2021. Twitter on Friday (20/11) said it would hand over control of the @POTUS (President of the United States) account to US president-elect Joe Biden on Inauguration Day, January.
The @POTUS account is the official account of the US President and is separate from the personal account of President Donald Trump, @realDonaldTrump, which Trump often uses.
Not only that, Twitter will also revoke Donald Trump's privileges after officially stepping down from his position.
Twitter confirmed that the @realDonaldTrump account will be subject to the same rules as any other user, including being prohibited from inciting violence and posting false information about voting or the coronavirus pandemic.
Twitter usually takes action against accounts that violate their policies and guidelines. But in the case of world leaders, it is not the same.
