Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has ordered every regional head spread across various parts of Indonesia to issue regulations regarding the implementation of health protocols.

The order was stated by Jokowi in Presidential Instruction (Inpres) 6/2020 concerning Improvement of Discipline and Law Enforcement of Health Protocol in Prevention and Control of Corona Virus Disease 2019.

The regulation instructs the ranks of ministers, the National Police, the TNI, and the local government to take the necessary steps in accordance with their duties and functions in ensuring legal certainty.

The Presidential Special Staff for Legal Affairs Dini Purwono explained the reason for the government to issue the legal product. According to him, the presidential decree really needs to be issued to improve public discipline.

"This Presidential Instruction was issued to provide a legal basis for efforts to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic situation and increase public discipline in implementing health protocols," said Dini in her statement to the media, Friday (7/8/2020).

Dini emphasized that the issuance of this presidential instruction was proof of the government's seriousness in reducing the number of Covid-19 spread, even though the main point in this Presidential Instruction was ordering regional heads to regulate sanctions.

"The Presidential Instruction is at the same time a legal basis for local governments to intensify the socialization of the implementation of health protocols and establish the obligations of the public to comply with health protocols," he said.

"As well as establishing sanctions for violators, where sanctions can be adjusted to the local wisdom of each region," he explained.
