What We Know from the Big Explosion in Lebanon

A big explosion rocked the Lebanese capital Beirut on Tuesday (4/8). After the explosion, a fire struck the scene so close to the port in Beirut.

The unfortunate incident, so far has caused 78 people killed and injured more than 4,000 others.

Cause of the Explosion

Initially, it was difficult to know the exact cause of the explosion in the capital city of Beirut.

 


Lebanese Prime Minister Hassan Diab said in a statement that the explosion was caused by the explosion of 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate that had been stored in a building over the past six years.

Briefly, eyewitnesses called the explosion that occurred like the end of the world.

 


Almost all corners of the city in Beirut panicked due to the explosion.

 


Even buildings as far as 10 kilometers from the scene of the explosion were also damaged. Even the streets of Beirut are filled with broken glass.

Briefly, eyewitnesses called the explosion that occurred like the end of the world.

 


Almost all corners of the city in Beirut panicked due to the explosion.

 


Lebanese President Michael Aoun has now ordered military officers to patrol near the city.


He also promised to open an investigation related to the explosion.

 


PM Diab stressed that this incident was completely unacceptable.

 


"I will not sleep until we find who is responsible, and give a harsh sentence," he continued.
