Cause of the Explosion
Initially, it was difficult to know the exact cause of the explosion in the capital city of Beirut.
Lebanese Prime Minister Hassan Diab said in a statement that the explosion was caused by the explosion of 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate that had been stored in a building over the past six years.

Lebanese President Michael Aoun has now ordered military officers to patrol near the city.

PM Diab stressed that this incident was completely unacceptable.
"I will not sleep until we find who is responsible, and give a harsh sentence," he continued.
